About Us
We are one of Maui’s longest-running nonprofit organizations and the largest employer of individuals with disabilities.
Our Story
Ka Lima O Maui is unusual in the non-profit sector in that we are a working agency, earning over half of our operating budget through our work contracts. Diversified income sources reflect our mission of self-reliance, balanced with state and community support.
Our Mission
It is our mission to provide our clients with the training, employment opportunities, and support they need to succeed in the workplace. This goal is achieved through real work opportunities. The County of Maui departments of Parks and Recreation, Fire, Police, and Public Works accounts for many of our largest grounds and custodial projects.
Vertical Integration
We have several commercial washer and drying machines to perform laundry services for our own internal custodial crews. Vertical integration is an important component of the Ka Lima O Maui program as our disabled custodial staff is responsible for both cleaning our commercial and private contracts out in the community as well as the laundering of cloths, rags, and mop heads used in those services. Our laundry department is in operation 5 days per week from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Our Funding
Our income can be divided into three categories:
Service Contracts (63%) – Revenues generated by our agency-run grounds and custodial services.
State Purchase of Service (POS) Contracts (31%) – Annual bid for State funds allocated to specific vocational rehabilitation and Medicaid Waiver programs.
Private Fundraising (6%) – Trusts and Foundations, special events, and an annual mail drive.
