Prevocational skills development and enhancement

About Our Medicaid Waiver Program

This program serves the organization’s most severely developmentally disabled adults. The Waiver Program is primarily non-vocational in nature and intended to be consumer driven. Program activities are designed to meet the individual needs of the consumers and include such activities as: independent living skills training, classes in basic meal preparation, community awareness/access, gardening, yoga, recreation and group/social activities. Waiver participants select their program provider and take an active role in determining the nature of their respective programs and goals. A relatively new component of the Waiver Program is the employment component that encourages vocational exploration, for which Ka Lima is at the forefront.

"Our son, Ryan Behn, has been a very happy client of the Ka Lima O Maui Waiver program for the past 12 years. Ryan looks forward to going to program every day. It provides him the opportunity for independence (away from his parents!), daily structure, social activities and events, friendship and employment. The staff is kind, compassionate and focused on helping Ryan achieve his goals including making healthy choices, exercising, appropriate social skills, hygiene, decision making and so much more. Ka Lima provides Ryan with a quality of life he would not otherwise have. We are so grateful for the Ka Lima O Maui ohana – and especially to be a part of it."
